As a Photographic and Special Collections Assistant, my tasks are related mainly to photography but are diverse in their purpose. The Photographic Studio, provided with the ”Grazer Cradle”, Phase One and Nikon cameras, and Capture One software, is enabling us to work in the best possible conditions ever. We are producing high resolution images to satisfy requests from all around the world for study and publication and are engaged in a comprehensive digitization programme in collaboration with the Bodleian Library.
My role as a Special Collections Assistant also implies answering emails related to research visits, making appointments for external readers, preparing and invoicing permissions for publication. Among my duties are helping with exhibitions, workshops and talks, setting up displays for groups, showing around visitors, and invoicing and dispatching orders (both photographic, and of publications issued by the Library).
I hold a degree in French and Romanian from the West University, Timisoara, Romania, and I benefitted from special photographic training arranged via the Bodleian Library. As a philologist, I am passionate about early printed books and manuscripts, and I consider Christ Church Upper Library as the perfect place to work.
