Christ Church Arts Week 2025

Every year Christ Church holds Arts Week, six days of culture and entertainment centred around the work of our very own Fine Art students. A couple of weeks on from Arts Week 2025, undergraduate Arts Rep Neha Jamal tells us what went on this year.

During Arts Week individual exhibitions are set up around College, available for all to view, with events and activities covering various forms of art, from music and theatre to poetry and printmaking, run alongside. The event is always a great opportunity for exchange and interaction between all members of the College, as a combined JCR and GCR initiative that is also open to all members of staff.

Arts Week this year kicked off on 22 February with Jazz and Drinks in the Picture Gallery, an evening immersed in the College’s precious art collection with a live jazz trio performing the whole time (and, of course, plenty of fizz!). Over 150 people from across the College came to chat, sip and enjoy the art that evening, turning the serene Picture Gallery into a hub of College culture and spirit.

The Jazz and Drinks event was closely followed by our Arts Formal, a dinner to celebrate the launch of Arts Week, with the Great Hall decorated accordingly.

The rest of the week was packed with cultural activities, with some experimental sonnet-writing at Poetry and Pizza Night, musical-themed fun at West End Wednesday, and plenty of hands-on creativity in the various painting, printing and pottery workshops we held.

Christ Church’s Fine Art students made full use of the beautiful venues of the historic College, displaying innovative and moving artwork in their personal exhibitions, notably including Vita Sunshine Bannister and Nicholas Owen’s Dreamland and Kian Swingler’s Witnesses

This year’s Arts Week was a great success – a wonderful reminder of the creativity and talent that is thriving within our College.
