Christmas party for staff’s children held in Christ Church Thatched Barn
On Saturday 14 December, the annual Christmas party for the children of Christ Church staff took place in our Thatched Barn. We caught up with Jackie Billington, one of the event’s organisers, to learn about the joyful occasion.
Last Saturday we were delighted to have the children of Christ Church staff join us in the Thatched Barn for a Christmas party. The barn was decorated with Christmas garlands and balloons hanging from the beams. Once the children arrived, “Magic Matt the Magician” performed his show, for both children and, of course, the adults! Throughout the afternoon, a face painter was on hand to paint Christmassy faces for all the children. To continue to keep the children entertained, an “Elf’s Workshop” was set up where they were able to get creative with paints, glue and sparkles to make a variety of Christmas decorations. A “stick the nose on Rudolph” also proved to be a hit.
After Magic Matt had finished his show, he then treated all the children to balloon models, from a hat and a hairdryer (yes, really!) to glasses and swords! Finally, it was time for the food, including sausages, cheese cubes, carrots, cucumber, hummus, Rice Krispies Christmas trees, cheese straws and a variety of sandwiches. The adults were also treated to a delicious chocolate yule log.
No Christmas party is complete without a visit from the Big Man himself, so an unnamed Christ Church employee gladly donned a Santa suit and made his entrance to the Barn, much to the enjoyment of the children. Santa gave each child a bag full of treats, along with a Father Christmas cupcake to take away. The children also were able to have a go in “Santa’s Cracker Drop”, a lucky dip to get a prize. This lucky dip consisted of a black dustbin (clean!) full of miniscule polystyrene balls … the children then enjoyed Christ Church’s very own “snow”, gleefully sliding around and making snow angels. Hours later the exhausted helpers finally packed away the brooms and hoovers and retired homeward bound for a well-deserved rest. A BIG THANK YOU to all those who made this event possible, the Entertainment Committee and the many helpers on the day!
