McDonald Postdoctoral Fellow to become Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics at Columbia University
Dr Ashley Moyse, the McDonald Postdoctoral Fellow in Christian Ethics and Public Life, has recently been appointed as an Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics in the Department of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Centre, New York.
at Christ Church, Dr Moyse’s work has focused on medical ethics and humanities, looking at the intersection of theological anthropology, philosophical and theological ethics, and critical philosophy of technology. He has authored two main studies while at Christ Church: The art of living for the technological age: Toward a humanizing performance and Resourcing hope for ageing and dying in a broken world: Wayfaring through despair.
Dr Moyse's projects at Columbia University will include looking at the moral formation of medical and healthcare professionals. Dr Moyse will investigate ‘burnout’ amongst medical professionals considering how capital resource reallocations, time constraints, and the increasing demands placed upon healthcare workers can impact both healthcare workers and their patients.
At Columbia Dr Moyse will also be involved in teaching ethics sessions for all medical students as well as clinical ethics electives and hospital chaplain ethics courses.
