Statement by Christ Church on the death of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II

'I heard with great sadness the news this evening of the death of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II, who was Visitor of Christ Church.

'Her death marks the end of a lifetime of faithful service and she will be greatly missed by the people of this country and beyond. Our thoughts and prayers are with the whole Royal Family who are mourning the loss of a great-grandmother, grandmother and mother as well as a much-loved monarch today.

'We will be holding them all before God in our prayers in the Cathedral tonight, and in the days to come.

'Members of the public are most welcome to come to the Cathedral, where prayers will be led on the hour throughout the day, and sign our book of condolence, or simply to pause and reflect for a while. Our doors will be open from 8:00 to 16:45, with Choral Evensong at 18:00 daily and everyone is welcome.'
