Freshers at Christ Church quickly get used to the bustle of a new place by sitting down with others, chatting and eating together. All students can eat in our famous Hall (which will be familiar if you've seen the Harry Potter films!) and we subsidise meals to make this accessible to everyone in college.
Self-service breakfast and lunch are available every weekday with brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
There are two dinner sittings each evening in Hall – informal at 6.20pm and formal at 7.20pm when academic gowns are worn and tutors attend.
Breakfast, lunch, and brunch are on a pay-as-you-eat basis; dinner is charged to termly accounts. Students are welcome to bring one or two guests.
There's a good selection of tasty food, including a range of vegetarian options. Special diets can also be catered for.
Breakfast and lunch are on a pay-as-you-go basis: breakfast costs between around £3.10 and up to £6.00 for a full English breakfast; lunch ranges from salad bowl at around £1.40 to £6.50 for a full lunch.
If you buy a 'season ticket' for dinners the cost is £3.67 per dinner, while an 'opt-in' standard dinner charge is £5.41.
The main college bar is the Undercroft, affectionately known as the 'Undie' (located in the basement of the Lee Building in Schools Quad). It's open during term Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 7.30pm and 11pm for the sale of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks (including draught/bottled beers, cocktails, spirits, wine, and a wide range of soft drinks and crisps). The Undercroft is furnished with table tennis, a pool table, a dart board, a juke box and two TV screens – all free of charge. Special evenings, events and promotions are announced from time to time.
The Buttery Bar (adjacent to Hall) is open for the sale of drinks during term from 6pm to 10pm daily, except on Sundays. The Buttery Manager is available to advise members on the provision of drinks for private dinners and personal use. Bottled beers, spirits, a wide range of soft drinks and a large selection of wines (including House wines and port) are available, but only to members of the House.
