Academic background
I completed my BSc and PhD in Chemistry at King's College, University fo London (1967–73). I then came to Oxford as Departmental Demonstrator in the Dyson Perrines Laboratory (1973–75) and Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at Christ Church (1973–75). I was an ICI Fellow from 1975 to 1977 and Research Lecturer at Christ Church from 1975 to 1979. Between 1979 and 1991 I was Lecturer in Chemistry at Bedford College, University of London (subsequently Royal Holloway and Bedford New College). From 1991 to 2016 I was a Reader in Organic Chemistry in the Chemistry Department of the University of Southampton. I was then a Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at Christ Church (1980–2016) and an Ordinary Student (1992–2016).
Undergraduate teaching
I teach Organic Chemistry.
Research interests
My research focuses on Supramolecular Chemistry, Molecular electronics, Crystal engineering, and Nanochemistry.
