Qualifications
BSc Engineering (UCLouvain); PhD (UCLouvain)
Academic background
I graduated from the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium) with a diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 2007, and with a PhD in Engineering Sciences in 2011. I then moved to the US for a postdoc at Harvard University as a Fellow of the Belgian American Educational Foundation (2011-2012), before returning to Louvain as a fellow of the National Research Fund of Belgium (“Chargé de Recherche FNRS”). From 2015 to 2019, I was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Monash University (Melbourne). I joined the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford as an Associate Professor in August 2019.
Undergraduate teaching
I am involved in teaching the Mechanical components of the Engineering Science course.
Research interests
I am interested in the development of mathematical models that are useful to understand and predict the mechanical behaviour of materials. My goal is to elucidate the intimate relationships between microscale processes and macroscopic properties in a variety of materials, from polymers and composites to engineering alloys. My current research focuses on emerging problems of solid mechanics that involve multiphysics couplings, in particular in the context of energy-storage materials and soft materials.
