Talk by James Stourton

Join us for a talk by James Stourton, discussing his latest book Rogues and Scholars: Boom and Bust in the London Art Market 1945-2000.

Stourton – historian, author and former Chairman of Sotheby's UK – tells the story of the London art market from the post-war period to the turn of the millennium, introducing us to “a glorious rogues' gallery of clever amateurs, eccentric scholars, brilliant emigrés, cockney traders and grandees with a flair for the deal”.

Some of his other books include: The British as Art Collectors, A History of British Art Collecting from the Tudors to the Present, with Charles Sebag-Montefiore (2012), Great Houses of London (2012), and a biography of Kenneth Clark (2016), which was named The Sunday Times Art Book of the Year in 2016.
