Frideswide Voices Chorister Through to BBC Young Chorister of the Year Semi-Final
Our Frideswide Voices chorister Jihyo will compete in the Semi-Finals of the BBC Young Chorister of the Year competition this Sunday on BBC One.
BBC Young Chorister of the Year is run by Songs of Praise and BBC Radio 2. Choristers from across the UK are invited to take part by recording a video of them singing two songs. The entries are reviewed individually by music directors of standing from the world of choral and church, who create a shortlist of 10 boy and 10 girl choristers, each consisting of 5 junior choristers aged 10-13 and 5 senior choristers aged 14-17.
The chosen singers will take part in junior and senior semi finals which are presented by Aled Jones and broadcast on television and radio. Six singers will proceed to the grand final, where they will have a chance of being crowned the BBC Young Chorister of the Year. The contestants will be judged in each final by a star panel consisting of composer and singer Bob Chilcott, saxophonist and broadcaster YolanDa Brown, and singer Katherine Jenkins.
Jihyo has done amazingly well to reach the semi-final stage, particularly as she is the youngest singer in the competition. We hope you’ll all join us in tuning in to BBC One on Sunday at 1.15 pm to support her!
