News from former Archdeacon Martin Gorick
Martin Gorick was the Archdeacon of Oxford between 2013–2020, in January 2020 he left Christ Church to take on a new role as Bishop of Dudley.
Since then Martin has been keeping busy, both with his new role and with a projects he was involved with whilst Archdeacon of Oxford, particularly those with an interfaith focus.
In October 2021 Martin was elected to the House of Bishops as one of the nine Suffragan Bishops that sit in the house. The House of Bishops is one of three Houses that make up the General Synod. They are involved in issues such as episcopal ministry, mission and national issues that affect the Church.
Martin has also become a patron of the Oxford Interfaith Forum. During his time at Christ Church Martin was heavily involved with interfaith activities, and was an interfaith advisor alongside his role as Archdeacon of Oxford. The forum is focussed on building collaboration between academia, professionals, and policymakers across the world by exploring various academic disciplines in interfaith contexts, the forum is also well known for its interfaith reading groups.
In 2022 Martin visited Madeburg for the ordinations of a partner church, which took place in Madeburg’s Cathedral. The Diocese’s of Worcester partnership with churches in Madeburg and Saxony dates to the fall of the Berlin wall and was fully formalised in 2014.
Back in Oxford Martin took part in a conversation with Rabbi David Wolpe, Recently named the most influential Rabbi in America. As part of the conversation they explored the meaning and text of Psalm 132.
